As usual, the show was held in the Air Museum
section of the Brussels Military Museum, at the Parc du
Cinquantenaire.
This year, the entire show was based around a "theme"
of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Brussels by the Allies in World
War II. In fact, the whole city was marking the occasion, not just the model
show.
Because of this (and also coinciding with the 40th
anniversary of the Red Arrows), we decided to have a "central theme" of
RAF Display Teams.
This is something we had already done several times in
2004 for the Red Arrows 40th anniversary - but this time it had more
significance as we were also representing the Allies.
There are 118 models on the display, all in 1/72nd
scale, built by 8 of our SIG members.
Purely by chance, we discovered that there was also
a Beer Festival in Brussels that weekend too, in the Grand Place.... A complete
coincidence - but a very happy one !! |
