The Blue Angels are quite
simply unique amongst all the world's aerial demonstration teams. They are the
longest-surviving of any team in history, from their humble propellor-driven
beginnings in 1946, to the present day. Only the Patrouille de France
and the USAF Thunderbirds come close to matching the Blue
Angels longevity, but even they were both formed in 1953, by which time
the Blue Angels were already on their fourth different type of
aircraft !
Our model display includes an
example of every display aircraft the team has flown throughout their
distinguished history, as well as many of the support and transport aircraft
assigned to the team during that time.
The whole display was staged on an area of
approximately 18 feet x 4.5 feet (5.8m x 1.5m) of table space. There are a
grand total of 148 models on display, all in 1/72nd scale. They were built by
11 of our members.
