Original design, current-issue patch, velcro-backed. Also made in a
somewhat smaller size as a cap badge. Although this is a fairly modern example
of the team patch, it is likely that the actual design dates back to the
1950's.

1988, the responsibility for the public aerial demonstration team was
transferred to the Air Force Academy and converted on to the indigenous AT-3
aircraft. Initially, the "new" team did not take the Thunder Tiger name,
but instead were just called "Aerobatic Team". At that time, they also adopted
this new logo/patch - nameless, but reflecting the colour scheme of their new
aircraft. However, in 1990, they re-adopted the Thunder Tiger name and
reverted to their original design logo/patch (left). |
